Merijn Bijlsma

Merijn Bijlsma studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and trained as a pediatrician at the VUmc (now Amsterdam UMC). During his residency, Merijn conducted research on tuberculosis in Nepal. Since September 2012, he has been working as a general pediatrician and as a research physician with the Neuroinfection Centre Amsterdam research group at the Amsterdam UMC. During his PhD project, Merijn focused on the epidemiology of bacterial meningitis and the Pediatric Dutch Bacterial Infection Genetics study (PEDBIG). In 2016, he defended his dissertation cum laude and continues to be involved with the Neuroinfection Centre Amsterdam research group as a postdoc.
