Practical Procedure (MeninGene)
- We will call you to inquire about including the patient, or you can call us to enroll the patient in the study (020-5664586 or outside office hours (24/7): 06-38437975).
- You inform the patient and obtain informed consent.
- We will email you the patient's study number, consent form, and lab forms for blood sampling and cerebrospinal fluid storage. These forms are also available on our website (see below).
- Blood samples are taken from the patient and a control (partner or close relative), and sent to the AMC.
NB: Blood samples must be sent to the AMC laboratory as soon as possible, but within one week of collection. Please indicate the study number, date of birth, and patient/control on the sample tube.
- If you submit the cerebrospinal fluid form to the laboratory where the cerebrospinal fluid is stored, the laboratory will notify us and we will arrange to collect any remaining cerebrospinal fluid.
NB: Even if there is no remaining cerebrospinal fluid or blood from a control available, the patient can still be included.
- You fill out the Case Record Form (via Castor database). After logging in, you can create a "New Record". Use the study number provided by email for both Record ID and Study Number. Email meningitis@amsterdamumc.nl to gain access to the database if you haven't already.
- You send us a copy of the discharge letter and a CD-ROM with any CT/MRI brain scans taken during hospitalization.
- To thank you for the help, we will send you a bottle of wine and/or a chocolate bar!
