Collaborations

The Neuroinfection Centre Amsterdam collaborates with various research groups within Amsterdam UMC, other academic hospitals in the Netherlands, and multiple international research groups. These collaborations often occur on a project basis, but there are also several long-term collaborative projects. These include:

  • National Institute of Health (NIH), Bethesda, USA
  • Wellcome Trust Sanger Centre, Cambridge, UK
  • University of Aalborg, Aalborg, DK
  • Ludwig-Maximilians Universität, Munchen, DE

Funding

Our research would not be possible without funding.

We are supported by the ItsME foundation with research grants for studies on autoantibodies, neonatal meningitis, and viral encephalitis. These projects are conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and Harvard University.

The research is further funded by grants from ZonMW (Vici grant, Prof.dr. Diederik van de Beek) and the European Research Council (ERC Consolidator Grant, Prof.dr. Matthijs Brouwer).

Interested in conducting research with us?

At the Neuroinfection Centre Amsterdam, we have PhD candidates, post-doctoral researchers, and laboratory technicians. PhD candidates are typically medical researchers preparing for specialization in neurological infectious diseases, but we also welcome research from biomedical sciences students interested in pursuing doctoral studies in our laboratory. If you are keen on undertaking PhD research, please send your CV and a cover letter to Prof. Dr. M.C. Brouwer. If you are a trainee specialist looking to undertake a research-based advanced internship, please refer to the advanced internship page.

Additionally, we host several bachelor's and master's students each year who write their theses with us. As our focus is primarily on clinical research, these internship positions are often filled by medical students. While opportunities for students from other disciplines may exist, we may not always be able to provide suitable supervision. If you are interested in an internship with us, please contact Prof. Dr. M.C. Brouwer well in advance, as positions tend to fill up quickly.
