Marian van Roon

Marian van Roon studied chemistry at the VU University Amsterdam. She got her PhD degree in 1989 at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, department of Anatomy and Embryology. As a post-doc (NKI Amsterdam and AMC Amsterdam) she specialized in the generation of genetically modified animal models for human diseases using transgenesis, (conditional) knock outs and CRISPR/Cas gene editing techniques. After a number of leadership positions as head of laboratory animal support departments, both university (VU University Amsterdam) and commercial (InnoSer, Poonawalla Science Parc Bilthoven), she started her own company adDIOGENEs (consultancy for Animal Experimental Research and Genetics). Since February 2020, she has once again focused fully and with great enthusiasm on scientific research. Within the neuroinfection group, her primary task is to facilitate and conduct laboratory animal research in search for genetic factors of host and bacterium that play a role in experimental bacterial meningitis.
