Bart Ferwerda

Bart Ferwerda studied Biology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. In 2010 he promoted cum laude on the subject 'Genetic variation in the innate immune system and susceptibility to infections. He did a postdoc at the University of Pennsylvania, where he researched genetic variation and evolutionary history of the innate immune system in African people. Currently, he is working on unraveling the genetic components that play a role in bacterial meningitis at the Amsterdam UMC. Here, he looks at the complex interaction between genetic factors of the patient and the bacteria.
